Holy Repetition With Valley Worship’s “On And On"

Your love goes on and on, on and on
Your love goes on and on, on and on
Your love goes on and on, on and on
Your love goes on

Have you ever been in a worship service where one or more of the songs seemed overly repetitive to you? Did you muscle through and keep singing along, or did you drop out in annoyance? Whether you have a high-tolerance or a low-tolerance for repetition, I encourage you to value songs that repeat choruses, phrases, and even single words. I believe these songs can have a powerful effect on your worship when you treat them as opportunities for meditation.

Take Valley Worship’s song “On and On”, for example. What if, as you sang these words over and over, you intentionally brought to mind recent things you are grateful for? Or, what if each new chorus brought to mind a different biblical story of God’s provision? You might just find that the phrase “on and on” becomes precious to you.

Revelation 4:8
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
